Not many vintage items featuring the legendary Simon and Garfunkel make their way to our auctions because they are so scarce. However, we are pleased to offer this RARE original first printing poster from 1968 for the FIRST time in our auction! The folk duo is advertised here for their appearance at the Indianapolis Coliseum on May 2nd 1968. Actor Dustin Hoffman (star of The Graduate 1967 film, which featured Simon & Garfunkel music) was also on the bill to make an appearance. The colorful poster design is credited to G. Jabobs and K. Kline.
This concert (and a couple others from this spring tour) was a benefit show for Senator Eugene McCarthy's Presidential run. Eugene McCarthy's strong anti-Vietnam War platform stirred a grassroots level of support from many students and youth deep in the counterculture movement. Although McCarthy did not win the Democratic nomination, his vigorous anti-war efforts carried on into the future. Simon and Garfunkel gained massive popularity in the 1960s, and are revered to this day. Don't overlook this amazing piece of music history!
