This exciting lot contains rare correspondence extracted from a recently discovered collection of official materials related to a benefit concert held in Philadelphia in 1971. The collection includes original promotional and administrative materials belonging to promoter William Kelly, the organizer of "Blues Bag One," a charity event for disadvantaged youth. This is one of several items that PAE will offer at auction in the coming weeks. The Allman Brothers Band headlined this once-in-a-lifetime blues jam, which also showcased legendary bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell. A 22-year-old Bonnie Raitt (who learned to play slide guitar from McDowell) opened the concert.

This letter was addressed to Grateful Dead manager Rock Scully. It requests the Dead to play at a follow-up to "Blues Bag One," which was pitched for October 29th, 1971, the same day that Duane Allman took his final ride. Although this series never came to pass, this one-of-a-kind item adds valuable provenance to the collection as a whole.
