1971 The Allman Brothers Band Blues Bag One Philadelphia Civic Center Press Kit Publicity Photos & Pre-Show Event Invitation

The premier lot in this auction is a 53-year-old Allman Brothers Band media kit from a time when this genre-defying band was at its creative peak. This is the first item Psychedelic Art Exchange is auctioning from a recently discovered collection of promotional material centered around a one-time event held in Philadelphia in 1971. The collection includes original promotional materials once belonging to promoter William Kelly, the organizer of "Blues Bag One," a charity event for disadvantaged youth.

The Allman Brothers headlined this once-in-a-lifetime blues jam, which also featured legendary bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell. A 22-year-old Bonnie Raitt (who learned to play slide guitar from McDowell) opened the concert.

The media/press kit for auction contains two publicity photos, an early Allman Brothers bio, and a custom-printed jacket explaining the event. As a bonus, we've included an invitation to the pre-party on July 22, "Blues Bag Bash," which was a meet and greet with The Allman Brothers and Luther Allison.

In the summer of 1971, The Allman Brothers were on the cusp of critical and commercial success, having released the incomparable At Fillmore East album just a month earlier. However, as fate would have it, within three months of this show, the band would tragically lose its musical and spiritual leader. Duane Allman took his final ride on October 29, 1971, at the age of 24.
