Here we have a popular Grateful Dead & Bill Graham Presents original poster created for the 1993 Mardi Gras Dead show in Oakland. Jazz icon Ornette Coleman was in support. This poster was designed by artist Harry Rossit.

The late great Ornette Coleman was a true pioneer in all regards. His body of work through his career up to his death in 2015 was celebrated by many. He was one of the founders of "free jazz" a term he invented and embraced through his improvisational and emotional style of playing alto sax.

Those of you who know the Grateful Dead's music know that Jerry Garcia was heavily influenced by free jazz and the improvisational qualities therein. Coleman joined the Dead on stage at this show during "Space" and stayed for "The Other One", "Stella Blue", Bobby Bland's "Turn on Your Lovelight" and the encore "Brokedown Palace".
