This handbill is signed in ink by both Judy Collins and the late great Mimi Farina!
Here is a super rare and early handbill from the 5th Annual Big Sur Folk Festival held in one of the most picturesque regions in California the Esalen Hot Springs. This original handbill is printed on extremely thin paper and features the incredible 1968 lineup of Joan Baez Judy Collins Mimi Fariña Arlo Guthrie and the Charles River Valley Boys. Best of all this piece is SIGNED by 2 of the performers: The late great Mimi Fariña (signed with “Best Wishes” in 1995) and Judy Collins (signed “Judy Collins-Thriving”).
In its formative years the festival began as a series of workshops and impromptu sets by Joan Baez Mimi & Richard Fariña and some of their contemporaries. By the 5th annual held in 1968 it had begun to grow and often special guests would show up and play. At this event Graham Nash Joni Mitchell John Sebastian and Stephen Stills all performed unannounced. The site for the festival was a gorgeous retreat that overlooked the sea complete with baths and saunas for the folk artists to relax in after playing their sets.
This is the FIRST example of this super rare SIGNED handbill to appear in our auction. More and more collectors are coming into the fold with the knowledge that artist signatures add a whole other dimension to their treasures.
