This original Grateful Dead handbill was created for a 1969 summer festival in the Pacific Northwest town of St. Helens in Oregon. The 3 day festival took place several miles north of Portland at Pelletier Farm about a week after the Woodstock Festival happened.
Taj Mahal and a whole lineup of pacific northwest Portland area musicians also performed at this weekend roots music event. The Dead played on Saturday August 23rd and their epic set included their blistering improvisational narrative of this era: Dark Star - Saint Stephen - The Eleven - Lovelight. Needless to say it was much better than their set at Woodstock.
This handbill is a very uncommon item and seldom appears in auctions! The poster is even more scarce and trades for really strong money. We've only auctioned 2 other examples of this handbill over the past decade and the most recent was over 4 years ago.
