It’s with great pleasure we can offer the collecting community a high grade example of this rare Jimi Hendrix original handbill appearing in our auction for the first time! The concert was held at San Bernadino's Swing Auditorium on September 5th 1968 and the supporting bands were Vanilla Fudge Soft Machine and Heir Apparent. The show almost didn’t happen because prior to Hendrix hitting the stage The fire marshal made an announcement saying the concert was going to be canceled due to the fire hazard of “so many unruly people” in the venue.
After their performance Jimi Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding hung out at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood with Eric Burdon. The next day The Experience travels to Hendrix’s hometown of Seattle where Jimi spends time with his family and friends before playing that evening at the Center Coliseum.
This is the first and only official printing of this Swing Auditorium handbill and no posters were produced or are known to be in existence of this design. In 2010 another example of this handbill sold for $694.73 in another public auction which was described as “Very Good with some handling and edge issues”. This far superior quality example should experience some spirited bidding from collectors waiting for this issue to surface!
