A brilliant work of art by Wes Wilson! Here we have only the second CGC Graded example of the Original Pre-Concert First Printing of BG-39 to appear in our auction! Airplane member Marty Balin's recent passing late last year has spurred a massive interest in anything related to Jefferson Airplane a trend that's still in the earliest of stages. In addition this historic run of concerts took place right after Grace Slick joined the Airplane.
The BG-39 is beautiful and unique because it was produced using a “color wheel” technique which varies the ink color as it rolls down the print. As a result each poster made looked slightly different! The First Printings of this issue are extremely rare and seldom surface in public auctions. We have only handled one prior with CGC grading. In April a lower 8.5 graded example reached $1080 in our auction. This clearly superior piece is sure to attract attention from eager collectors looking to finally get their hands on a mint specimen of this issue!
