For the FIRST TIME in our auction with CGC Grading this original Talking Heads poster is being offered to the collecting community!
Talking Heads were one of the most entertaining bands of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Only into their third year being signed to Sire Records this design by Su Suttle was used for several of their concerts performed during the fall of 1979 and the venue / date information was changed for each issue. The image is the same in The Art of Rock book for plate #5.40 however the book displays the September 30th show at Coconut Grove in Santa Cruz.
This concert by the young group at University of California in Davis on October 1st was held in Freeborn Hall on campus. Talking Heads had just released their third album “Fear of Music” in August and had already gained hot popularity on a national scale with their cover of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River” which reached the Top 30 Billboard Single Charts the year prior.
Original Talking Heads concert posters have been showing a recent spike in interest by collectors due to their promotional material being very limited and rarely surfacing. This piece is especially scarce and unique because it’s from very early in their career as they transformed from a quirky CBGB spectacle to the addition of their new producer Brian Eno tightening up the rhythm section's energy for more dance-oriented beats and high quality album production.
Many of these issues have been pirated and poorly reproduced over the years but the CGC graded example you see here is the FIRST real-deal original issue of this First Printing poster to surface with third party certification. In terms of scarcity the opportunity to win this specimen may not come again for a VERY long time.
