This historic 1968 poster was produced in San Francisco by the Peace & Freedom Party promoting an alternative on the ballot in 1968. The poster features a quote by Sgt Robert Shriver Jr brother in law of President John F Kennedy and the first director of the Peace Corps. After Kennedy’s assassination Shriver worked as special assistant to Lyndon Johnson and was the architect of the Johnson administration's "War on Poverty" initiative.

The Peace and Freedom Party grew out of the civil rights and anti-war movements in 1967. Unhappy with the Democratic Party's support for the war in Vietnam and the Democrats' failure to effectively support the civil rights movement many citizens decided it was time to build a new party. Most notably in the San Francisco Bay Area ground-roots activists became deputy registrars of voters and peace organizers.
