The extra special lot you see here just emerged from a collection assembled by one of the top experts of historic material of the late sixties and we couldn’t be more pleased to offer it in our auction with an AMAZING ORIGINAL SIGNATURE by renowned Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek.
"Ode to LA while thinking of Brian Jones Deceased". Jim Morrison wrote this poem in 1969 and it was printed by Western Lithograph Company on 2 textured yellow pieces of paper with dark green ink measuring 6” x 9 1/2". Both pages are printed on both sides and unstapled. According to Ray Manzarek very few were produced (500 or less?) and distributed personally by The Doors at their Aquarius Theatre concert in Hollywood on July 21 1969.
This was the third of Morrison's self-published poetry works and written before “An American Prayer” a year later. A legendary meditation on the death of Rolling Stones Original Member Brian Jones who died on July 3 just two weeks prior to the Aquarius Theatre concert where it was distributed. Those who attended have confirmed that the floor of the Aquarius was covered with copies of this poem at the show which would account for its extreme scarcity in ANY condition!
The term ONE OF A KIND applies in every way shape and form to this magnificent lot! Our records show an unsigned example of this poem in near mint condition once sold in another public auction for over $20 000. However we have never seen a SIGNED Ray Manzarek example surface ever before and to the best of our knowledge he did not sign any others. More and more collectors are coming into the fold with the knowledge that artist signatures add a whole other dimension to their treasures.
