When one considers the connection Andy Warhol had to the Electric Circus in New York the "Warholian" looking image explodes with deeper meaning (Warhol & The Velvet Underground performed at the venue in its heyday).
This poster is for a concert that never happened and we believe it was created with the goal of being the Ultimate and Definitive Doors Poster and was not an actual concert advertisement. Based on it's value desirability and incredible eye appeal the artist achieved their objective!
This iconic artwork is featured in The Art Of Rock as plate #3.161 although it is too large to encapsulate by CGC for certification.
Seven years ago in December 2012 a lower condition example which was trimmed and contained surface stains realized $3586 in our auction.
Our archives also show higher prices for better specimens. A specimen described as "excellent condition with a few minor flaws" sold for $8373 on 11/12/15 and another specimen described as "excellent condition with waviness in the paper due to humidity/moisture" realized $13 751 on 9/7/17.
When you recognize the fact that it could easily be another 7 years before another specimen comes along...and much longer for a poster of this superb quality this becomes a collecting opportunity that should be carefully considered.
