This vintage 8” x 10” black and white photograph showcases Bob Dylan & Joan Baez together at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival. This lot has UNSURPASSED HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE as it was Bob Dylan’s FIRST appearance at the legendary Festival. His album "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" had just been released in May. Dylan was just 22 years old in 1963 and his solo acoustic performance Friday night included “With God on Our Side” “Talkin' John Birch Society Blues” and “A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall”.

Peter Paul and Mary then performed an encore of his song Blowin' in the Wind. Amidst a deafening roar of applause they brought to the stage Dylan Joan Baez Pete Seeger Theo Bikel and the Freedom Singers. Everyone stood in a single line facing the audience with crossed arms and clasped hands and began to sing a variation on the Baptist hymn "We Shall Overcome." The hymn had become an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement and this performance went down in history as one of the most moving moments in live music ever!
