This is an Original Program for the 1969 Miami Rock Festival printed on brittle and fragile newsprint paper. The Grateful Dead performed at the 3 day festival along with many other popular acts of the day including The Band Canned Heat Santana Johnny Winter the Paul Butterfield Blues Band Smith The Amboy Dukes and Tony Joe White.
1969 being the “Year of the Festivals” the Miami Rock was the forty second festival of the year. Held on December 27-29 there were thousands of young fans in attendance and one young man unfortunately died falling from a spotlight tower. The festival took place outside of the city at the Miami-Hollywood Speedway in the middle of Pembroke Pines. The lineup was absolutely stellar.
The Grateful Dead played on the 28th and their set included some early versions of “Workingman’s Dead” material later released the following year. This treasure printed on newsprint exhibits trippy artwork on the cover and articles inside about many of the scheduled performers. Vintage festival programs from the 60’s are harder to find with each passing year. This is the FIRST EXAMPLE we’ve ever offered in our auction of this super RARE issue!
