This lot will be accompanied by a Letter of Provenance attesting to the fact that it resided in the historic Early '66 Time Capsule Collection one of the most exciting and important concert poster discoveries of the past 20 years.

We're pleased to offer the collecting community the very FIRST example of this Original CARDBOARD Peace Rock poster to ever appear in our auction. This is the FIRST PEACE ROCK event held at the Fillmore!

Many advanced collectors lust after the Peace Rock posters as they've always been perceived as important. What makes this cardboard piece BIG is the “Pasted On” late edits to the line-up including The Great Society and Big Brother! Quicksilver and The Wildflower round out this piece as being an early Bay Area music classic.

Like the original line-up poster produced before it Peter Bailey did the calligraphy on these edits - they match the calligraphy on the alternate Trips Festival flyer generated by Bill Graham that is in the AOF book… and Peter did that just maybe 3 weeks earlier… he also did the BG-1 poster (check his calligraphic "Jefferson Airplane" lettering on BG-1) one week before this one. So timing wise - epic! Early in the development of the whole dance hall scene in SF. The Fillmore Auditorium before Bill really nailed it down as his own personal kingdom.

Chet Helms was “managing” Big Brother around this time and The Wildflower were like folk beatniks from the early bay area psych-folkie scene. This piece has some great bands and has the sort of pedigree of Peter Bailey and the very early Fillmore posters (pre-Wes).. so it’s a very rare very early piece. Guessing maybe 3-4-5 copies like this out there?

The poster exhibits the Union Logo in the lower left corner and is very 50’s looking in many ways. There was a great degree of cooperation between some of the union printers and the politicos... the unions and democrats being super pro-labor at that point almost communist in ideology.

The highly overused term "rare" actually applies to this piece. Probably just a handful of these survived and this one is in excellent condition. We have heard whispers of 2 or 3 specimens that have quietly traded privately among elite collectors over the past 50 years but this is the very first specimen to be made available to the collecting public at large through auction. If you are a serious collector or you really focus on big deal early Haight-Ashbury hippie culture material this is a must-have prize.

The poster displayed in the main image is in its original state before the line up for the concert had been changed.  You can see the dried adhesive that previously held two rectangular pieces of paper on which the replacement bands had been printed (Big Brother Wildflower The Great Society). The subsequent photos show the pieces that were pasted over the original poster to indicate change in performers. The additional pieces of paper will accompany the poster in a separate archival sleeve.

Estimate: Due to this being the very first time this ultra rarity has been offered in our auction ascertaining value is something best left to the marketplace here and now. We know of one other that previously realized $2070 at auction.
