This lot will be accompanied by a Letter of Provenance attesting to the fact that it resided in the historic Early '66 Time Capsule Collection one of the most exciting and important concert poster discoveries of the past 20 years.

This spectacular specimen of the ultra rare and historically important YELLOW Family Dog Tribal Stomp handbill is the first to EVER appear in our auction.

To fully understand the importance of this offering we quote the timeless advice we imparted in our blog published almost 10 years ago on 1/25/10--

There are certain "rules to live by" that are necessary for success no matter what collectible one is addressing. Today I'd like to share another one of these "golden rules" with you. There is one number in collectibles that is instantly more sought after and valuable than any other number and that is the number ONE. ONE as in FIRST!! The first corvette the first Batman comic the first U.S. coin are all immediately recognizable due to the HISTORIC IMPORTANCE of the collectible in question. Anybody and everybody can understand THE FIRST and therefore THE FIRST of everything has an intrinsic desirability to people inside AND outside a collectible market.

There is no doubt about the UNSURPASSED HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE AND RARITY of this FIRST EVER FAMILY DOG HANDBILL. Just 250 posters were originally printed that were accompanied by a record low number of handbills. The handbill was printed on 3 different colors of paper white blue and yellow. White is by far the most common (although rare in it's own right) with just a tiny handful of blue and yellow handbills known in ANY condition.

Handbills are FAR more easily counterfeited than posters. CGC has brought much needed integrity and stability to this marketplace. Collectors now see this as a vastly undervalued area of interest. See our blog date 5/18/18 for details.

Our archives show 2 auction appearances both of which occurred many years ago. One specimen that was sold 6 years ago for $10 972 on 9/15/13. The piece was cataloged as "Beautiful Near Mint Condition". Based on reports that come through here over the years there is likely less than 5 of these in collections. As rare as the blue variant is the yellow is even more scarce.

A second specimen sold for $10 930 on 12/6/15. That specimen was cataloged as "A bit of light handling. 2 small pieces of tape on the reverse".

It should also be noted that earlier this year we sold a blue version of this handbill from this very same Early '66 Time Capsule Collection. That piece realized $9 000 on 4/18/19 and was graded 7.0 by CGC. You can view that auction record here.

Of course neither of the previous sales reviewed above were independently authenticated and graded by CGC. With all the previous mischief in this segment of the market we consider CGC authentication and grading an absolute MUST for any rare and expensive issues like this.

It should also be noted that the specimen offered here is in a completely different league quality wise. It is in unimprovable Museum Quality condition that must be included in any FINEST KNOWN CONDITION CENSUS. It is alaso unquestionably the finest CGC grasded speciment to ever appear at public auction. In addition this specimen has unimprovable provenance from one of the most important concert poster discoveries of the past 2 decades. The FD-1 poster in this state of preservation would easily trade for $50 000-$100 000.

In short this lot is a "no brainer" Grand Slam. It's the right issue the right color in the right condition with superb provenance. A truly special opportunity that may not present itself again.
