1966–The Village Gate-DR TIMOTHY LEARY Psychedelic Celebration #2 INVITATION TICKET and LIFE Magazine with article! PAE Misc Grades

This is the FIRST EXAMPLE of this super rare Invitation Pass to appear in our auction! Dr Timothy Leary gave a lecture on November 1st 1966 at the Village Gate in New York which was called "Psychedelic Celebration #2 - The Reincarnation of Christ". This was the second of several Psychedelic Celebrations hosted by Leary soon after LSD became illegal in the United States. This event included trippy light shows and additional weirdness galore.

 

Included with this 4" x 4 7/8" Ticket Pass is a special corresponding issue of LIFE magazine published a week later which includes an article about the event on page 24. The article is called "Dr Leary's Psychedelic Road Show" by Robert Vaughan. It includes a detailed review of what occurred this evening at the Village Gate. 

 

As you may already know the Village Gate in New York has a rich history as well hosting legendary performances by Aretha Franklin The Velvet Underground and of course Jimi Hendrix played there at another Tim Leary benefit in 1970. Timothy Leary was one of the most visible figures of the 1960's counter culture. The one time Harvard professor was an early advocate of the psychedelic experience and consciousness expanding substances. He helped open the minds of many of us whom would not be here today had he not. An amazing piece of history from an important part of this fascinating era!
