Celebrated Austin artist Jim Franklin designed the cover art for this vintage original issue of the Texas Observer from November 1971. The Texas Observer Magazine was a bi-weekly journal published in Austin as early as 1954 with a circulation of around 19 000. It has been the state's leading journalistic voice for social justice from progressive perspectives. Through the years the Observer has covered many political scandals and issues of racial and civil liberties. This vintage item has just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene!
