We are happy to offer this Texas rarity for the FIRST TIME in our auction! This Original First Printing comic book just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene.
The Armadillotoons comic was created by noted Austin artist Jim Franklin. Franklin was an amazing concert poster artist for the Vulcan Gas Company and later for the historic Armadillo World Headquarters. This 32 page comic features plenty of Franklin's very hilarious graphic images along with work by several other Vulcan Gas Company artists including Gilbert Shelton. Shelton went on to become one of most well known underground Comix artists of all time. He was one of the founders of “Rip off Press” and was best known for his popular “Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers” comix.
This comic book was only printed once and was sold inside the Vulcan Gas Company during its tenure. “Kennedy's Price Guide” reports that this comic book was not printed in 1969 but actually on January 18 1970. Franklin & Shelton’s First Print material is in high demand and considered by many VERY undervalued at current market levels. 100% Original with no restoration!
