This original First Printing poster for a 1967 Grateful Dead concert at the Continental Ballroom (called “Auditorium” on the poster) is a rare treasure that is sure to gain attention from collectors in this auction. The design was produced by the same artist who produced the artwork for the popular Continental Dead poster from several months later in October 1967. Posters from this venue are extremely sought after.
As well as hosting well known San Francisco bands Santa Clara’s Continental Ballroom was also the South Bay’s venue for the lesser known garage bands of the day. Although the Dead were technically no longer a garage band they still sometimes PLAYED like a garage band in ’67. This concert took place only 2 months after the Grateful Dead’s debut album on Warner Brothers was released. Their name much like on the early Avalon FD-22 is erroneously misspelled on the poster as “Greatful”. The artwork historical significance and scarcity allow a piece like this be a world class collectible. 100% Original with no restoration!
