This is a scarce original handbill relic produced for a concert at the New City Opera House in Minneapolis Minnesota. Billed as an early “Turn on to the Trips Festival” the lineup included psychedelic pioneers: The Litter and Joker’s Wild. The new sound of these two bands incorporated heavy underground rock - fuzz guitars speedy drums and tight bass lines influenced by what The Beatles were doing with songs like Harrison's "Taxman". This rare treasure was recently unearthed within a long held collection of early underground acid-rock concert material from the upper midwest.

As integral members of Minnesota's growing psychedelic music community in the late sixties the Jokers Wild included Denny Johnson Pete Huber and lead guitarist Lonnie Knight. They recorded 3 singles between 1967 and 1969 but the complete album “Liquid Giraffe” was never released. Later Knight also performed with The Litter also featured on this handbill. He sadly passed away in May of 2017.

The New City Opera House built a cult following in the 1960’s as well with a rich history for iconic performances. Beginning as an old 1920’s dance hall on Lake Street in Minneapolis it shared the same building as the popular “Magoo’s” tavern. The two clubs were connected through a hallway and Magoo’s was a common place for musicians and artists to hang out. By mere circumstance The Litter opened for the legendary Cream at New City two years later.
