Taj Mahal was a regular fixture in the San Francisco scene as well as touring regularly through the south and midwest. His take on American roots music has been well documented during his 45+ year career as a recording artist. This Austin concert was a special benefit show for blues legend Mance Lipscomb. Lipscomb became an important figure in the American blues music revival of the 1960's. He was a regular performer at folk-blues clubs around the United States especially Texas. He suffered a stroke in 1973 which inspired this benefit show but sadly he passed away in Navasota a few years later in 1976.
This poster has just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene. It's a very rare original first printing poster designed by the legendary Austin artist Micael Priest which seldom surfaces for collectors in ANY condition. The Micael Priest designed New Riders issue from several years later in 1978 is a highly collectible piece and has sold for record prices recently. This poster is at least 5 times as rare.
