This poster has just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas material owned by a long time resident and participant of the Austin music scene. This is the FIRST example of this great looking 1975 New Riders of the Purple Sage poster to appear in our auction! It's a very rare and early original first printing of this poster which seldom surfaces for collectors in ANY condition. The Micael Priest New Riders issue from several years later in 1978 is a highly collectible piece and has sold for record prices recently. This poster is at least 5 times as rare.
It was produced during an important era for the New Riders. Having released their 4th album "The Adventures of Panama Red" a year prior they were reaping the rewards of having a radio hit with the title track and the record reaching #55 on the billboard charts. It's also worthy to note that the graphics here by Guy Juke are simply beautiful. All Armadillo World Headquarters posters are red hot and we see this as just the early days in a long trend!
