Commander Cody formed his country-rock band "The Lost Planet Airmen" in 1967. The group's founder was George Frayne (Commander Cody) on piano. They would take their cues less from folk-rock and bluegrass and more from the rowdy barroom country of the Ernest Tubb and Ray Price style. Cody would also from time to time sit in with the Armadillo house band Asleep at the Wheel. The Commander is still active and performs concerts to this day.
This amazing poster was designed by Texas poster artist Ken Featherston. Ken was a major figure in the history of Armadillo World Headquarters and met his tragic end by mistakenly being shot to death at the venue at the age of 23 in 1975. This original poster has just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas posters.
Armadillo World Headquarters posters are currently enjoying top collector demand. This can be attributed to several reasons including scarcity historical significance as ground zero in the Texas psychedelic scene and the recently published book on the venue "Armadillo World Headquarters - A Memoir" by Eddie Wilson with Jesse Sublett and forward by Dave Marsh.
