Only the second CGC graded example of this colorful original Grateful Dead handbill to appear in our auction!
The Rose Palace in Pasadena had originally been built for the construction of floats for the “Tournament of Roses Parade” which is held every New Year's Day in the city. During the late sixties and through the seventies it was also used as a concert venue.
This “Scenic Sounds” promotion is quite special with three big names on the bill at the Rose Palace: The Grateful Dead Jethro Tull and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band! The Dead set on Saturday night featured a classic 1969 "Dark Star Saint Stephen The Eleven Lovelight" power punch delivery.
Original handbills from this venue of any band are difficult to find because so few were made. We've only offered one previously. In June 2018 a heavily damaged 2.5 graded example reached $161 in our auction. In any other collectibles market this clean 7.5 handbill here would be worth many multiples of the previously sold example. It will be interesting to see what premium the market attaches to this superior example now!
