Rick Griffins Masterpiece “Aoxomoxoa” is one of the most beautiful and requested Grateful Dead posters of all time. This is only the second CGC graded example of this large ORIGINAL FIRST PRINTING poster with NO RESTORATION to ever appear in our auction! The image was created for a 1969 Avalon Ballroom performance by the Dead and was soon thereafter appropriated by the band as cover art for their third LP.
It's only fitting that one of Griffin's finest works was for one of the most beloved groups of all time... The Grateful Dead. There are plenty of mindblowing posters that were created for run of the mill bands. And there is an equal number of run of the mill posters created for great bands. But there are precious few superlative posters that were created for legendary bands. This poster obviously is THE DEFINITION of a World Class poster for a World Class band.
Earlier this year a 9.6 graded example reached a record setting high water mark of $10 800 in our auction.
