We are pleased to offer this ultra rare and early original Bill Graham handbill for the FIRST TIME in our auction! It's un-improvable Museum Quality condition demands that it be included in any Finest Known Condition Census.

This handbill is for one of the earliest Bill Graham sponsored Benefits at the Fillmore Auditorium held barely a month after the BG 1 show.

Robert Nelson taught at Art Institute and was an experimental film-maker. He helped Bill Graham by showing some of his short clips during breaks at Mime Troupe performances so Bill is helping him out here.

The movie that is being shown at this event was made with another SF area artist William T Wiley. It was the perfect faire for the avant-garde weirdness that was going on at these shows in early 66 before a pattern of what was supposed to happen started to develop. Additionally Robert Nelson made a short movie featuring the Grateful Dead in 1967 that is a great 7 minutes or so montage of GD and the state of weird effects in the experimental film industry at that point check it out on youtube… it’s called “Grateful Dead".

There is a multi-media element to this lot that provides a window into this era. Numerous art forms were being presented and enjoyed together which was a hallmark of the early San Francisco  Psychedelic dance Hall Scene. The multi-media overload sort of mimicked the psychedelic experience. The Scene was more than just music and audience and this lot captures this perfectly.

This is a scarce handbill.. especially in clean shape. An essential piece of history if you want a really good Bill Graham collection Fillmore collection or early hippie history collection.
