This lot will be accompanied by a Letter of Provenance attesting to the fact that it resided in the historic Early '66 Time Capsule Collection one of the most important concert poster collections of all time.

The Early '66 Time Capsule Collection is comprised of 133 concert posters and handbills. Each piece is from a very brief period January 1966 through May 1966. The collection was assembled by a student that attended San Francisco University 1965-1967 and briefly worked for The Family Dog hanging posters and distributing handbills on the street.

We are pleased to present this lot -- along with lot #2 -- as the very first offerings from the historic Early '66 Time Capsule Collection!

Known as "BG-1A" this handbill was designed by Peter Bailey and only printed once. It utilizes the same artwork as the BG-1 but was created to promote 2 concerts that fell between BG-2 and BG-3 on April 1st and 2nd 1966.

No posters are known to have been produced for these shows making this exceedingly rare issue a MUST OWN for any collector looking to complete a Bill Graham Fillmore collection.

Just a handful of specimens of this exceedingly rare handbill have surfaced over the past 15 years and this is the ONLY example to be independently authenticated and graded by CGC. It's virtually unimprovable quality demands that it be included in any finest known census.

In our opinion the acquisition of a major rarity such as this must be CGC authenticated and graded. Handbills are FAR more easily counterfeited than posters. CGC has brought much needed integrity and stability to this marketplace. Collectors now see this as a vastly undervalued area of interest. See our blog date 5/18/18 for details.

We are often asked "How do you locate such crazy rare items?". The general answer is "We don't". Items such as this that are known to have survived in the low single digits only surface in the once in a blue moon collections such as the Early '66 Time Capsule Collection. That was a once in a lifetime collection and this is a very rare opportunity that may not present itself again anytime soon. If you are a Bill Graham/ Fillmore collector don't let this opportunity pass you by!
