We are thrilled to be able to offer the FIRST CGC Graded specimen of of one of the finest Vulcan Gas Company Posters to appear in a public auction! This VG-7 hits on all cylinders.
Most notably this poster was designed by Gilbert Shelton the most well known and successful Texas underground comic artist. He created some the most enjoyable and popular underground comix ever published. Not only was Shelton the father to The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Fat Freddie's Cat but he was responsible for several of the earliest Vulcan Gas Company posters.
The Vulcan Gas Company was THE Psychedelic Rock venue in Austin Texas in the '60s . Austin has always been a bohemian hot spot and the epicenter of live music in Texas.
As psychedelic as the come. The 13th Floor Elevators with the enigmatic Roky Erickson at the helm were crucially influential in the development of the San Francisco sound. Their legacy continues today in influencing modern day psych and indie music genres.
The scarcity of this poster in this condition is paramount. It should be known to collectors that the Vulcan posters were printed in editions of hundreds not thousands. All Vulcan Gas posters are scarce in ANY condition.
This poster is MASSIVE in size. The fact it has remained in such SUPER CLEAN condition with no nicks cuts tears or pinholes for 52 years is nothing short of a miracle.
This poster routinely commands $3 000-$4500 on the rare occasions it's are offered. It will be interesting to see what value the market assigns to this fine example being the FIRST CGC Graded specimen in such great condition.
