This hand-drawn finished original art is signed in ink by the late great Rick Griffin!
Here we have an absolutely extraordinary find! We are always tickled to come across SIGNED ORIGINAL ART by the late great master Rick Griffin. It is a handsigned alternate cover for the Portfolio of Underground Art 1980 Published by "Schanes and Schanes".
Griffin was a renowned member of the San Francisco Underground Art Community that flourished around the same time as the poster revolution. Griffin's artistic contributions to Zap comix are some of the finest works ever created by the artist.
This is a LARGE (14"x 17") signed & finished pen and ink drawing that was created for the cover the portfolio in 1980 which had an edition size of 1200 copied. It contained thirteen plates of exclusive art by top Underground cartoonists and a 32-page booklet with artist bios and photos of all the creators including Griffin Dan O'Neill Jack Jackson (Jaxon) Robert Crumb Greg Irons and many more.
A close examination finds the drawing being offered here was not the final version of the cover art (See Image #3) but a very close 99% alternate version signed by the artist!
Original Griffin underground art pages from the Zap era sell for large 5 figure sums. A unique treasure in its own rite this SIGNED piece of original art is ONE OF A KIND and will not surface again!
