This evening of “Jazz at the Philharmonic” took place on 6/30/62 in Oakland Coliseum with headliners Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington. The two legends had worked together previously. Ellington had first met Fitzgerald in the mid-30’s when she performed at Harlem’s legendary Savoy Ballroom with Chick Webb. They would remain friends and collaborators in the years leading up to the recording of “Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Song Book” released in 1957. Original cardboard posters are super popular and remain one of the most highly sought after type of concert memorabilia ever known!
