The enigmatic Captain Beefheart brought his Avant-Garde act to Texas on his 1974 tour. This amazing rendering is a popular and rare design by the legendary underground artist Jim Franklin. The following year almost to the date Beefheart would collaborate with his long time associate Frank Zappa at the Armadillo the recordings of which are forever preserved on the "Bongo Fury" album.
The Armadillo World Headquarters opened in Austin just after the closing of the Vulcan Gas Company. It went on to become the premiere venue in that musically rich city from 1970-1980. This legendary club offered an incredibly eclectic range of performers in its 10 year tenure. The posters from these shows represent one of the greatest collections of poster art available anywhere.
Demand for Armadillo posters is currently at an all time high and we see this as just the early days in a long trend. This can be attributed to several reasons including scarcity historical significance as ground zero in the Texas psychedelic scene and the recently published book on the venue "Armadillio World Headquarters - A Memoir" by Eddie Wilson with Jesse Sublett and forward by Dave Marsh.
