In every collectibles marketplace there is overwhelming demand and interest in anything that can be called THE BEST.
For the FIRST TIME in our auction it is a pleasure to offer a very rare opportunity to own what is considered by many serious collectors to be amongst THE BEST Doors concert posters ever created.
This poster was designed by renowned poster artist D.W. Beeghly whose creative output is considered to be amongst THE BEST of all time.
Beeghly's claim to fame was the ridiculous time effort and materials he invested to create true works of art that transcended the genre.
This poster is a hand pulled silkscreen that uses stunning day glow fluorescent inks that dazzle under black light. (see photo!) Beeghley produced under 200 of this poster and just a few are known to exist today in ANY condition.
This concert held at The Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. would be the only time that Jim Morrison's parents would see him perform live.
Our archives indicate this is just the second specimen to EVER appear at public auction and in terms of quality this is unquestionably THE BEST specimen and must be included in any Finest Known Condition Census.
Eight years ago the only other specimen to appear at auction was sold on 6/7/2011. This was a heavily damaged example described as "C/C-" realized $9600 at auction. That poster was ripped to shreds with a large amount of paper missing - so much missing paper in fact that a large percentage of the edges of the poster were non existent. The cataloger described it as "very heavy amounts of edge wear several small to decent sized tears scattered along all of the edges from 1-4 inches each. a couple of very large tears in the top/bottom margins heavy creasing a few small holes toning a decent amount of surface wear numerous surface scapes/scratches ink cracking".
The key to building a World Class collection is having the wherewithal to act when opportunity presents itself. Clearly this lot represents THE BEST opportunity to own this Legendary Rarity....an opportunity that may not present itself again--if ever--for many years to come.
Estimating the value of this poster is difficult and highly speculative due to it being only the SECOND and THE BEST condition example to appear at public auction. It's important to note that in our opinion this poster is FAR rarer than Beeghly's other concert posters rendered in the same style and the same incredible inks has traded for as much as $40 000. Indeed the last Beeghly concert poster we auctioned in very similar condition to the one offered here commanded $27 600 on 8/23/18. You can read about that poster here.
It will be interesting to see what value the market attaches to this Finest Known Condition Census specimen. The collectibles world will be watching as advanced collectors fight it out for the right to add this masterpiece to their collection!
