This is the FIRST TIME we’ve offered this Original Jimi Hendrix Handbill in our auction! In May 1969 at Waikiki Shell in Honolulu the band played two spirited shows and Noel Redding’s Fat Mattress was supporting. The design with photo by Karl Ferris was used for several shows promoted by Concerts West during May 1969.
Earlier in the month The Experience flew to Pearson International Airport in Toronto to play a show at Maple Leaf Gardens. While checking through Canada Customs one of Hendrix’s bags contained what was believed to be an illegal substance. Hendrix was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters. He was later released on a $10 000 cash bail and required to appear in court two days later.
When interviewed about the incident by Ben Wood for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin (published May 31 1969) Hendrix stated: "All of that is the establishment fighting back. Eventually they will swallow themselves up. But I don't want them to swallow too many kids up as they go along. Put that down I know what I'm talking about."
