This historic Original First Printing poster has been certified authentic on the reverse in pencil by world famous concert poster expert researcher and authority Eric King! King literally wrote the book on these posters "The Collector's Guide to Psychedelic Rock Concert Posters Postcards and Handbills 1965-1973".
The Gathering of the Tribes is one of Rick Griffin’s earliest best and most historically important pieces. The artwork is featured in The Art of Rock plate # 2.215. The Human Be-In was originally conceived as an opportunity for the San Francisco Bohemians and Berkeley radicals to join forces in celebration of their respective counter culture ideals. The Stage was taken by the major San Francisco bands of the day as well as Psychedelic advocates political radicals beat writers and spiritualists.
Key figures included Tim Leary Ram Dass Allan Ginsburg and Jerry Rubin who spoke to the gathering of 30 000. The Be-in was a true illustration of the ideals of the Haight and probably the last true gathering before the innocence of the culture would be lost. Due to the unsurpassed historical significance of this poster and the incredible Rick Griffin design -- Griffin's very FIRST concert poster-- this poster always has and always will be considered one of the most important and desirable concert posters ever created. The worldwide demand has always overwhelmed the tiny available supply creating a Blue Chip Classic Rarity that always becomes the highlight of any collection in which it resides.
This specimen is tied with another example we auctioned off in May 2018 that was also graded 9.4 by CGC. That lot realized $3164.
