1970-Springer's Ballroom-Chicago Uncut Printer’s Proof-PAE Graded Near Mint “89”

A very rare and unique Pacific Northwest item being offered for the FIRST TIME in our auction! This is a press proof sheet for an original 1970 Chicago concert poster at Springer’s in Portland. The colorful artwork was designed by Michael James Strickland. Two month’s prior to this concert the band had just released their second studio album on Columbia Records and it was commercially successful. This special lot is a testament to the beginning of their long spanning career.

This printer’s proof is an untrimmed concert poster that was run through the presses before they adjusted the final color registration so the color printing is off center and about 1/2" out of registration. The light green paper used for this off register press sheet was different than that used for the actual concert posters that were trimmed and distributed. 

The backside of the sheet has an incomplete one color run of another Portland Oregon concert poster which featured artwork by Ron Barzee for The Animals The Seeds and a local Portland band The Outer Edge on March 19 1970 (psychedelic hand lettering overlay only. The center piece artwork was not included in the printing of this test run). See photo of the reverse. Original material from the Pacific Northwest is highly collectible and is increasingly hard to find as time goes on. This ultra rare gem is from a special consignment which contained a Pacific Northwest collection assembled by one of the top collectors of this type material!
