We are thrilled to offer the collecting community this rare Sex Pistols promo poster for the FIRST TIME in our auction! This LARGE original first printing poster was produced by artist Jamie Reid and distributed by Virgin Records to promote The Sex Pistols 1979 album release “The Great Rock ‘n Roll Swindle”. The album was also a soundtrack for the film documentary of the same name released a year later. By the time the soundtrack was being prepared Johnny Rotten had left the band so the tracks were completed by taking his vocals from the October 1976 demo session recordings and re-recording instrumental tracks over them.
This poster was banned from being distributed immediately after it was produced because of the American Express Card copyright infringement. Most of them were destroyed but this example here managed to survive all these years. This example here belonged to the band’s Road Manager Noel Monk. He wrote the book “12 days on the Road with the Sex Pistols” and he also managed the Fillmore East back in the day. This huge oversized poster has all of the important attributes needed for a classic collectible record company promo item and it’s 100% original with no restoration whatsoever!
