This poster has just emerged from a recently unearthed and long held collection of Texas posters. It has been off the market since the mid 1980's. Several of the posters in the collection including this one were at one timed owned by Texas poster Artist Ken Fetherston. Ken was a major figure in the history of Armadillo World Headquarters and met his tragic end by mistakenly being shot to death at the venue at the age of 23 in 1975.
This poster is personalized "Killer Poster Ken See you there". Aside from that the signatures are amazing! The signature of the late John Dawson (Marmaduke) Reads Mark of McDuke!... amazing poster and amazing provenance!
This is the FIRST example of this great looking 1973 New Riders poster to appear in our auction! It's a very rare and early original first printing of this poster which seldom surfaces for collectors at ANY public auction. The Michael Priest issue from several years later in 1978 is a highly collectible piece and has sold for record prices recently. This poster is at least 5 times as rare.
Not only is the early 1973 issue you see here special because of the band signatures but the poster itself was produced during an important era for the group. Having just released their 4th album "The Adventures of Panama Red" a month prior they were reaping the rewards of having a radio hit with the title track and the record reaching #55 on the billboard charts. It's also worthy to note that the graphics here are simply beautiful. All Armadillo World Headquarters posters are red hot and we see this as just the early days in a long trend!
