Hungry for that unusual and rare item? Look no further! Here we have a very special piece of ORIGINAL ART from 1968! The FD 111 Siegal Schwall poster by artist Tad Hunter (San Andreas Fault) is well known as a rather unique design in the Family Dog series. This ultra-scarce preliminary drawing study is one of the most unique pieces we have EVER had the pleasure of offering to the collecting community. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind item that should not be overlooked!

During the late 1960’s Tad Hunter who went by the pseudonym “San Andreas Fault” created several concert posters for the Avalon and a few for the Straight Theater. He also designed posters for other concert venues in Sacramento San Bernardino and San Rafael as well as a later 1976 poster for a concert in Fairfax CA. In addition he illustrated a series of underground comix during the mid-1970s called “The All-Losers Squad”. Hunter also designed the cover for a 1968 album by the band Kaleidoscope which is supporting Siegal Schwall in this FD-111 image.

The FD-111 design stands out in the series because of its bright color patterns. The pixilated image of Charlie Chaplin is hard to discern up close but looks amazing from across the room. There are several interesting differences between this early preliminary drawing and the final poster design. Notice the date here shows March 1-3 which ended up being a completely different poster designed by Neon Park (FD-108) featuring an alternate lineup of performers. Most notably the headliner listed in this original art is Moby Grape however by the time the final product was finished it was changed to the Chicago blues artist Siegal Schwall. The dates were then re-scheduled for a couple weeks later.

Another unique difference is the imagery in the bottom foreground of the seated woman reclining on the tree. When looking at this drawing and the final poster side by side the viewer will notice the steps placed along the bottom right corner with a standing woman. The reclining woman is moved over to the left side and alternated to a separate design image with a yin yang style circle placed in the bottom center reminiscent on a half moon. Perhaps the most exciting thing about a preliminary art piece like this surfacing is the fact that all these subtle differences can be reveled and collectors get an inside view of the artist’s original design and work progression!

Original concert poster art is currently red hot becasue of it's one of a kind status. Last month we auctioned off the original artwork for FD-93 which realized $5750.00.

“Charlie Chaplin” FD-111 has always been acquired by collectors and showcased in many fans’ treasure troves. This piece of original art exhibited here is a testament to the final version and a tribute to San Andreas Fault’s contributions to the poster world. For those of you out there who are craving these unusual and unique types of additions to your collection go for it! It is unlikely THIS piece like this will surface again!
