We are pleased to offer this ultra rare and early original Bill Graham poster for the FIRST TIME in our auction! The date of this show falls between the numbered series BG-1 and BG-2. It is one of the first shows Graham produced at the Fillmore Auditorium and was a benefit concert to provide funding for filmmaker Robert Nelson's movie "The Great Blondino”.

Robert Nelson and assistant William Wiley spent almost a year in post-production and editing of the film and soon ran out of capitol funds to finish the movie. Nelson had been involved with the SF Mime Troupe previously and when Bill Graham heard about his trouble he offered to throw a benefit concert at the Fillmore consisting of 2 nights with music provided by Quicksilver Messenger Service The Great Society (featuring a pre-Jefferson Airplane Grace Slick) The Gentlemen's Band Mystery Trend Family Tree and Third Rail.

With the help of proceeds from this event the premier of the movie was able to happen one month later. Bill Graham is listed as promoter in the bottom left corner of this poster and this classic image is featured in "The Art of the Fillmore" book on page 32. There were as few as 100 original posters produced for this historic benefit event and many have a brownish-red hand-drawn circle around the performers like this example here. It has seldom surfaced over the years. The last comparable example sold for $3 465 in November 2013 at another public auction.
