This is the FIRST TIME we have offered this super rare Uncut Artist’s Proof Sheet in our auction! This is an original Tour Blank / Promotional poster for the band The Outer Edge. The bass player in this late sixties Portland psychedelic band Rick Crittendon went on to become internationally famous as a jazz composer & instrumentalist.
The artwork is by the late great Catherine E. Weinstein. In the late ‘60s Catherine got involved in the music scene in Portland working on concert light shows. She was also interested in graphic design. She created her first music poster in 1968 called “Peyote Eyes” for the Pythian Ballroom event “Let’s Get Together”. We sold one for the FIRST TIME in our June 2018 Mega Sale and it generated a lot of spirited bidding!
Mostly self-taught as an illustrator Weinstein developed her own take on the psychedelic style of the era. She created a number of posters and handbills for local and national bands from The Portland Zoo to Led Zeppelin! Many works are signed Catherine E Weinstein but starting in 1971 she also used several pseudonyms: “Hedda Goldspace” “The Cosmic Galootess" and “Thunderbitch” the latter resonating as an expression of her personality to those who knew her.
Original Posters from the Pacific Northwest are highly collectible and are increasingly hard to find as time goes on. This example is in great shape coming in just under a mint grade only due to a few light edge creases on the right and the bottom. It’s also VERY IMPORTANT to note that this gem is a scarce uncut artist’s print proof most likely the only one that will ever surface. The colors are beautiful bright and bold. It’s a wonder it survived in such good condition!
