We are pleased to offer this oddity for the FIRST TIME in our auction! This is a very rare wedding invitation for Willie Nelson's drummer Paul English to be married to Dianne Huddleston in 1973. The ceremony and reception took place in Dripping Springs Texas the same location where Willie held his earliest 4th of July Picnics.
Poster artist Michael Priest known for his image contributions to the Armadillo World Headquarters material designed this beauty. Toward the bottom of the list of attendees is written “For Directions go to the Armadillo World Headquarters Beer Garden”. Those are two important characteristics which make this an Armadillo-Related piece of history!
Featured attendees included Organist Bobbie Nelson Soloist Willie Nelson Waylon Jennings Sammi Smith Rita Coolidge Kris Kristofferson Tom T. Hall Doug Sahm Walter Burnette Mickey Raphael Bee Spears and Jimmy Day. All the cast members are drawn in the illustration! VERY FEW of these historic event invitations are known to still exist today and this example is in near mint condition! Only light toning and foxing on the paper are holding this back from a perfect grade.
Armadillio World Headquarters related material is currently enjoying top collector demand. This can be attributed to several reasons including scarcity historical significance as ground zero in the Texas psychedelic scene and the recently published book on the venue "Armadillio World Headquarters - A Memoir" by Eddie Wilson with Jesse Sublett and forward by Dave Marsh.
