This is the FIRST TIME we’ve offered this Original Hendrix Handbill in our auction! After being interviewed by freelance journalist Sharon Lawrence in his room at The Beverly Hills Hotel Jimi Hendrix flew to Detroit to perform at the Cobo Arena on May 2nd. The iconic image on this handbill by David Byrd was used for many shows Jimi performed during his spring tour of the United States in 1969. At the Cobo the band played a spirited show and Noel Redding’s Fat Mattress was supporting.
The day after this show The Experience flew to Pearson International Airport in Toronto to play a show at Maple Leaf Gardens. While checking through Canada Customs one of Hendrix’s bags contained what was believed to be an illegal substance. Hendrix was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters. He was later released on a $10 000 cash bail and required to appear in court two days later. This scarce piece is 100% original with no restoration. A tiny pin hole in the top of this original handbill is all keeping this gem from a higher grade! Handbills are currently one of the hottest segments of the market.
