This is the FIRST TIME we have offered this Cardboard Concert Poster in our auction! In 1950 the Legendary “King of Soul” Sam Cooke replaced R. H. Harris as lead singer of the gospel group The Soul Stirrers. He became the new frontman of the group very quickly because of his great voice and good looks. They soon signed with Specialty Records and their first recording under Cooke's leadership was the song "Jesus Gave Me Water" in 1951.
Cooke is often credited for bringing gospel music to the attention of a younger crowd of listeners. In 1956 he started trying other musical directions and began recording pop songs. This concert with The Soul Stirrers in January was one of the final performances before Cooke set out on his own releasing his first solo single "You Send Me" a year later.
A very scarce find in its own rite this vintage piece has great band photos of The Famous Caravans and The Soul Stirrers with Cooke included during their peak of popularity. Cardboard posters are super popular and remain one of the most highly sought after type of concert memorabilia ever known.
