This handbill is signed in black ink by the legendary Cab Calloway!

Probably one of the OLDEST Original Handbills we have ever offered and this is also the FIRST TIME we have offered a Cab Calloway SIGNED piece in our auction! The Savoy Ballroom was a legendary music venue in Harlem which was opened by Jay Faggen and Moe Gale in 1926. During the 1930’s it became known for early Swing Music and the “Lindy Hop” dance and therefore earned the nickname “The Home of Happy Feet”. Count Basie The Chick Webb Big Band and Ella Fitzgerald are among some of the regular artists who performed there.

This vintage DOUBLE SIDED handbill features the jazz legend Cab Calloway at the Savoy Ballroom on Easter weekend in 1938. Calloway was one of the most popular American jazz artists of the 1930s recording prolifically for Brunswick Records and Decca’s Vocalion Records. The topping on the cake is this original handbill is SIGNED by Cab Calloway himself! Read our blog dated 1/20/18 where we discuss the skyrocketing demand for signed material such as this lot.
