All early Family Dog posters have always been amongst the most popular and in demand issues with collectors. But the FD-10 has special historical significane and importance as the very FIRST time the Grateful Dead played at the Avalon Ballroom. Even though the band was third on the bill history clearly proved that they were the most innovative inspirational and improvisational band of the era.
According to Eric King's Collector's Guide Family Dog issues 1-13 were produced in tiny editions of just 1000 or less! Of this tiny number perhaps 10-15% exist 50+ years later in ANY condition and just a tiny handful have survived undamaged that CGC would grade 9.0 or higher.
This gorgeous poster is tied with for the finest quality CGC graded example we have ever auctioned. The previous 9.6 example commanded $3749 on 12/1/16.We would be hard pressed to explain how this Museum Quality example could be improved upon in any way and cannot explain why this immaculate masterpiece did not earn a 9.8 designation. Regardless this is sure to please even the strictest condition freak!
