A major milestone has been reached for us with this lot. We have been waiting a long time to finally be able to offer the collecting community this amazing original poster with CGC certification for the FIRST TIME! The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair is easily the most famous musical/cultural event of the 1960’s. The festival was originally intended to be held in Wallkill New York. Permits however were denied and the festival promoters had to find a new location just a month prior to the festival. The festival was then moved to Bethel NY. The rest is history.
The original pre-concert first printing poster being offered here was designed for the original site by Fillmore East poster artist David Byrd. It is much harder to track down than the other popular woodstock fest posters. Over the years we have only come across 4 of them. They were not CGC authenticated and they were not SIGNED by the artist like this example. Nor were they in such super clean condition. The fact that this piece is certified by CGC places it into a whole other dimension! Beat-up toned out and creased non-CGC examples have realized as much as $700 in our past auctions. This piece is in a different world by comparison.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of this historic event. We can expect for the whole world to have a case of “Sixties Mania” that is sure to influence the sights sounds and fashions of 2019.
