This handbill is signed in black ink by founding Charlatans band member George Hunter!

This scarce original handbill features a photograph of The Charlatans taken by the famous photographer Herb Greene. Greene captured many Bay Area bands in the mid-late sixties such as the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. There was long speculation between collectors over the years as to exactly where this band photo was taken. We have found out from a very reliable source the photo on this handbill was taken in front of the remnants of the old 'HIPPODROME' entrance at 555 Pacific the Heart of San Francisco's old Barbary Coast. Included in this lot is a reference photo of the Hippodrome building to confirm the location of this shoot. This handbill advertises a run of shows The Charlatans played at the historic Matrix venue. The Matrix was a tiny club in San Francisco that held just 150 people. Very few handbills from the club have survived the test of time. This handbill is SIGNED. Read our blog dated 1/20/18 where we discuss the skyrocketing demand for signed material such as this lot.
