1975-Grateful Dead Records-Blues For Allah Original LARGE In-Store Cardboard Cut Out-RARE PROMO ITEM! Not Graded

Behold! This is an original and official 1975 Grateful Dead Records promotional item and it may be the most unique piece of memorabilia you have ever seen! This large IN-STORE Cardboard Cut-Out was produced for the release of the Dead’s album “Blues For Allah”. It was their third studio album released on their own label and also their final before signing to Arista records a couple years later. 

Vintage promotional material is always interesting to find however this piece takes the cake! This standing cardboard cut-out was owned by Ben Friedman the owner of the famous “Postermat” store in North Beach. It started as a record store but soonafter Ben was moving toward more posters and less music. Artists like Janis Joplin Grace Slick John Lennon and Rick Griffin frequented the shop and called Ben their friend. The history of the Postermat can be found in "The Art of Rock" on page 12.

At the bottom of this cardboard cut out inscribed in black ink is “to Barry June 12 90 Good Luck-Ben Friedman”(See Photos). Also written in pencil on the top half of the reverse is: “Not for Sale Property of Steve Brown GD Records”. Needless to say considering this super rare promo item was produced by the financially challenged Grateful Dead Records label it stands to reason there were VERY FEW of these made. YOU WILL NOT see another one of these surface at auction anytime soon if EVER!
