We have never offered this ultra rare Mime Troupe handbill before until now! Most fans of this auction are aware of the impact that Bill Graham had on the San Francisco Rock Scene on the 1960’s and beyond however only a handful of collectors are tuned into the early history of the world’s most famous rock and roll impresario.
Shortly after Graham became the San Francisco Mime Troupe’s manager in 1965 The Troupe founder R. G. “Ronnie” Davis was indicted for performing in public parks without a permit. In response Graham organized the first Mime Troupe fundraising event. These events were so popular that he held two more fundraising events. The third fundraiser featured a performance by the Warlocks later to be known as the Grateful Dead.
This handbill is from some of the very first days of Graham's tenure with the Mime Troupe. With shows at the Gate Theatre and the Berkeley Little Theatre spanning October and November the group performed the morality play "Chronicles of Hell". This super scarce piece in is mint museum quality condition!
